Numerical calculation of steady gravity-capillary waves forced by a surface pressure distribution

چکیده
Steady free-surface flow due to a pressure distribution under both gravity and capillary effects in water of finite depth is considered. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid and incompressible and the flow is irrotational. The problem is formulated as an integro-differential equation. Numerical results are found to depend on three parameters: Froude number, F , Bond number, τ∗, and the magnitude and sign of the pressure forcing, . In this study, we restrict attention to the case of symmetric subcritical flow (F < 1). It is found that, for given values of τ∗ and , there exist both elevation and depression waves. In some cases, the limiting configuration in the form of a trapped bubble occurs in the depression wave solutions.

Stability of gravity-capillary waves generated by a moving pressure disturbance in water of finite depth
In previous work, we investigated two-dimensional steady gravity-capillary waves generated by a localized pressure distribution moving with constant speed U in water of finite depth h . Localized solitary waves can only exist in subcritical flows where the Froude number F = U/(gh) < 1 , and were found using a combination of numerical simulations of the fully nonlinear inviscid, irrotational equ...

We present a study of nonlinear gravity–capillary waves with surface forcing and viscous dissipation. Based on a viscous boundary layer approximation near the water surface, the theory permits the efficient calculation of steady gravity–capillary waves with parasitic capillary ripples. To balance the viscous dissipation and thus achieve steady solutions, wind forcing is applied by adding a surf...

The fluid is assumed to be inviscid and incompressible, and the flow is irrotational. The behaviour of the forced nonlinear waves is characterized by three parameters: th...
